How Archery Sarasota Started
Archery Sarasota didn’t start as a business plan. It started as a dad coaching his four sons through competitive archery. Rob Gilbert got into coaching because his boys were shooting, and once he started, he never looked back. As the kids grew and the team developed, so did the work — tuning bows, building arrows, dialing in equipment, and coaching archers who wanted more than a standard pro shop could offer.
The turning point came from a friend — an FWC officer who knew what Rob was doing with tournament archery and bow setup. He asked Rob for help with a string replacement and full tune. When the work was done, the officer told Rob he needed to offer this service to others because he couldn’t find it anywhere locally.
As the business grew, Rob was booked seven days a week — taking on bow builds, intro lessons, tuning, and advanced coaching all by himself. Something had to give.
Scott Reed was one of the dads on the archery team. He would listen, watch, and help the other kids during team practice when Rob was stretched thin. Rob saw what Scott was doing naturally and talked him into getting certified as an instructor. As Scott grew more confident, he took over all beginner and introductory lessons — freeing Rob to focus on builds, tunes, advanced coaching, and running the shop.
What started as one coach helping a friend became two partners building something together. Rob asked Scott to become a partner in the business, and now they’re on this journey side by side — a friendship that turned into a service business built on trust, faith, and doing right by every archer who walks through the door.

Robert Gilbert
Rob first stepped into coaching to support his four sons on their archery journey — and never looked back. He believes in working hard at what you love and letting the results speak for themselves.
As the team’s bow technician and head coach, Rob is the go-to for dialing in equipment and fine-tuning athletes. He has a gift for helping archers who are stuck find their groove, treating every shooter like a bow that just needs the right adjustment. His coaching has produced multiple USA Archery state champions, ASA Shooters of the Year, top 10 USA Archery national rankings, and a top 3 ASA national ranking — all youth archers developed through his program.
Rob is led by his faith, and everything he does on and off the range reflects that foundation. His standing rule: work hard and absolutely no whining.

Scott Reed
Scott likes to joke that he’s old, cranky, and always late — but don’t let the humor fool you. Behind the gruff exterior is a patient, soft-hearted coach who genuinely cares about helping kids and adults alike reach their full potential in archery.
Scott started as a team dad, watching and listening during practice and naturally stepping in to help other kids when Rob was stretched thin. Rob saw what Scott was doing and talked him into getting certified. As Scott grew into the role, he took over all beginner and introductory lessons — becoming the first face most new archers see when they walk in.
His calm presence and steady guidance make him a trusted mentor on the shooting line, especially for students just beginning their journey. Scott lays the foundation that every archer builds on.

USA Archery Certified
Robert Gilbert holds a USA Archery Level 3 Coach certification — the highest coaching level in the USA Archery system. Scott Reed holds a USA Archery Level 2 Instructor certification.
State Champions
Multiple youth archers coached by Rob have won USA Archery state championships. These athletes were developed from beginners through our program.
National Rankings
Our youth archers have achieved top 10 USA Archery national rankings and a top 3 ASA national ranking — competing against programs from across the country.
ASA Shooters of the Year
Multiple youth archers from our program have earned ASA Shooter of the Year honors, recognizing sustained excellence across an entire competitive season.
