Real Outdoor Terrain

Mountain courses, ridgelines, canyons, timber. Targets placed at unknown distances on uneven ground. You range, compensate for angle, and execute the shot.

Demands Every Skill

Equipment precision, clean ranging, angle compensation, long-range accuracy, mental composure under pressure. TAC tests all of it in one event.

Bowhunters & Competitors

Attracts both hunters testing their gear at distance and competitive 3D archers chasing one of the most demanding events in the sport. Different mindsets, same preparation.

How We Prepare You

Five Steps to TAC-Ready.

Every prep session follows this progression. Some archers need all five, some just the last few. Each step builds the skill TAC will test — equipment reliability, sight-tape precision, rangefinder discipline, angle compensation, and mental composure under pressure.

1

Bow Tuning, Setup & Equipment Reliability

We start at the foundation. Cam timing, center shot, bare-shaft tuning, group tuning, and arrow-spine matched to your bow build. TAC exposes every weak point at distance — cam timing off by a fraction, a mismatched arrow spine, or a sight tape that drifts will all show up. A bow that is not tuned will not group at long distance, and we eliminate those variables before you compete.

2

Precise Sight Tapes — Labradar-Verified, Rangefinder-Paired

With no yardage markers on a TAC course, your sight tape is everything. Labradar measures your arrow's real velocity at multiple distances downrange. We use that data to build a sight tape through Precision Cut Archery, paired exactly to your rangefinder — so the number you read is the number you put on the pin. A generic tape introduces error. A Labradar-verified tape paired to your rangefinder does not. The single biggest competitive advantage going into a TAC event.

3

Long-Range 3D Practice & Rangefinder Discipline

20+ targets at unknown distances out to 100+ yards. You'll use a rangefinder on every shot — getting a clean, accurate read through brush, foliage, and animal-shaped 3D targets is its own skill. We teach you how to read it and how to apply that number on the pin. This is where your sight tape gets verified, your rangefinder discipline gets built, and your long-range accuracy at 60, 80, and 100+ yards becomes a process you can repeat instead of a hope.

4

Angle Compensation Setup & 3rd-Axis Leveling

Steep uphill and downhill shots are where archers consistently miss on TAC courses. Florida is flat, so we can't simulate slope, but we set up everything that lets you handle the angles when you get there: rangefinder with built-in angle compensation, the math behind line-of-sight vs. horizontal distance, and 3rd-axis bow sight leveling so a tilted shot still hits where you aim.

5

Mental Shot Process & Composure Under Pressure

TAC puts you under real pressure — long shots, challenging positions, other archers watching. We train a controlled shot process so execution stays clean when nerves and doubt show up, and so a long shot on a challenging target becomes the process you trust rather than the moment you talk yourself out of it.

Why Prepare Here

Three Things Standard Shops Can't Match.

The combination of Labradar, the 3D range, and Level 3 coaching is what makes Archery Sarasota specifically equipped for TAC prep.

01

Labradar on an Outdoor Range

Labradar requires real distance to work. Most shops can't use it. We have an outdoor range where we measure your arrow's actual ballistics at distance and build sight tapes that are verified, not estimated.

02

Full 3D Course to 100+ Yards

20+ 3D targets at unknown distances. The closest thing to a real TAC course you can train on in Florida. Unknown distances at first read, realistic animal-shaped targets, and the same job of ranging cleanly, picking the right pin, and executing the shot.

03

Level 3 Coaching

TAC prep with a USA Archery Level 3 certified coach who works on both the equipment side and the mental side. One session covers tuning, sight tapes, shooting, and shot process — not just one piece of it.

Pricing

Same Flat Rate as All Service Work.

Tuning, sight tapes, range time, and coaching all happen in the same session. One rate for everything.

Frequently Asked

Common Questions.

Real answers about TAC setup and training.

What is Total Archery Challenge (TAC)?

Total Archery Challenge is widely considered the ultimate archery challenge — a 3D competition on real outdoor terrain with targets at completely unknown distances, no yardage markers, and shots out to 100+ yards. It demands accurate equipment, clean rangefinder use, angle compensation, and solid shot execution under pressure.

How do I prepare for Total Archery Challenge?

Archery Sarasota offers complete TAC preparation: bow tuning, Labradar ballistic analysis, custom sight tapes for unknown-distance shooting, long-range 3D practice on our outdoor course to 100+ yards, angle compensation setup and 3rd-axis sight leveling, and mental shot process coaching. Sessions are $100 per hour with a USA Archery Level 3 coach.

Why are custom sight tapes important for TAC?

TAC has no yardage markers, so your sight tape must be precisely calibrated to your bow's real ballistics. We use Labradar Doppler radar to measure your arrow velocity at multiple distances, then build custom sight tapes through Precision Cut Archery. A generic sight tape introduces error at long range. A Labradar-verified tape does not.

Do you have a 3D range for TAC practice?

Yes. We have a full outdoor 3D range with 20+ targets at various distances, including shots out to 100+ yards. We practice unknown-distance ranging, sight-tape verification, and shot execution. Florida is flat, so we can't simulate steep terrain — angle compensation gets handled through equipment setup (rangefinder with built-in angle comp, 3rd-axis sight leveling) before you travel to the mountain.

What is angle shooting and why does it matter for TAC?

TAC courses are set on terrain with steep uphill and downhill angles. Your rangefinder gives you line-of-sight distance, but angled shots require horizontal distance — otherwise you shoot over the target. Florida is flat, so we don't simulate slope on our range. What we do is set you up before you go: we recommend a rangefinder with built-in angle compensation, walk you through the math behind it, and apply 3rd-axis bow sight leveling so the arrow holds true on a steep shot.

How much does TAC setup and training cost?

TAC setup and training is $100 per hour. Sessions cover bow tuning, Labradar sight tapes, 3D practice, angle training, and mental coaching. The number of sessions depends on your skill level and how much range time you want before your event.

Who is TAC setup and training for?

All archers. Hunters who want to test their gear and skills at real distances, 3D competitors taking on the biggest challenge in the sport, and any archer who wants to push their long-range accuracy further than a standard indoor or backyard range allows.
